How often do we have to be fooled by our feelings before we realize our feelings are foolish ?
Is to love wrong? No, but if we only love those who invoke in us a warm fuzzy “feeling” then is it really love?
Are we subject to the feelings of being hurt and angry. Of course! We hurt when we lose someone we care about whether by death, divorce, betrayal, being used, and the list goes on .
The degree of hurt sometimes depends on how much of our “heart” we gave away. I sometimes wonder what part of “guard your heart above all else” do we not understand?
Yet we are told by God to love EVERYONE, to be kind to EVERYONE, even to those who spitefully use us, to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
While seemingly paradoxical, the commands to both love and to guard your heart are simple in Christ.
Proverbs 28:26 says that “one who trusts in their own heart is a fool but one who walks wisely will be delivered”.
Yes, when we trust in our feelings we are foolish but when we live our lives wisely putting on the filter of God’s word over the eyes of our heart - we are then wise indeed.
Put off self and put on Christ. You will love even more but with great purpose. Will your feelings still get hurt ? Yes! But God will rescue you and bind up your wounds and even make your brokenness beautiful ♥️
