The Cross – stop and think on it – don’t jump past it to the resurrection. Why?
There could be no resurrection without the death on the cross. There is no greater exhibition of Divine LOVE than the cross, “For God so loved”.
There is no greater sacrifice than God on the cross, we are justified by His blood and saved from the wrath of a Holy God.
There is no healing for us without the Cross; by his wounds we can die to sin and live for righteousness.
There is no hope of being right with God for us without the Cross. On the Cross, Jesus became sin – your sin and my sin and all the ugliness and vileness that mankind is capable of – HE BECAME THAT! He became sin who knew no sin that we might become the righteousness of God.
There is no eternal LIFE without the Cross. Again, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have ETERNAL life.” Without the Cross and the opportunity to believe in Jesus there is only eternal death.
Jesus was not forced on the Cross, He chose it! He chose to suffer and die for YOU and me and everyone else who will believe. He GAVE His life; it was not taken from Him and He did it because of love. God shows His love for us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus said that no one could take His life because He had the authority to lay it down and to take it up again.
The Cross to Christianity is the MASSIVE intersection of God’s Love and Grace and Mercy and God’s Wrath and Justice and Holiness. So Christian, stop and think on Jesus on the Cross and remember to be fall-down-on-your-face-to-the-ground grateful that we are all wretched sinners saved by grace. Never forget GRACE!
