THIRSTY FOR SOMETHING MORE?

Life is short and filled with trouble. Is this a true statement? Of course, it is. However, there is so much more that occurs in between the trauma of birth and the tragedy of death. Given a choice when we are old enough between perfection and pain, we would all choose to have a life of absolute perfection with no pain or suffering ever.

BUT, even when we are lucky enough to have more than enough, to be talented, beautiful, and successful, there is an undertone of dissatisfaction. We are also ALL very flawed and do things and say things that hurts ourselves and others. Why is it that the very best this world can offer us is never good enough?

Because we were created with eternity in our hearts. This means that within us there is an innate longing for something that cannot be fulfilled by anything that is not eternal. Only God is Eternal and thus only God can satisfy the thirst for perfection and hungers for something that lies just beyond reach.

Yet even when we take this path of truth and seek God Himself through Christ, we still do so with the idea that when we walk with God, life will become easier and more comfortable.

You cannot seek to know God, to see more of God, to have a closer walk with Him and simultaneously seek comfort and a life free of suffering. These two objectives are diametrically opposed to each other.

But take heart! There are attributes of God which you will never “see” except in the dark. Treasures that cannot be found except in the caverns created by floods of sorrows. There are manifestations of His power you can never experience until you come to the end of yourself. You cannot understand the depth of His grace until you find yourself drowning in a sea of need.

Life rains on the good and the bad, believers and non-believers. With God we can be triumphant in tragedy; delighted in the daily drudge; beautiful even in our brokenness and best of all, experience endless joy in eternity.
